Nordics lead Vestas end of quarter surge

Vestas joins Oz project to advance turbine lifting

Vestas has secured 366MW of turbine orders, the largest of which is 202MW project in Sweden due online at the end of 2022.

The Swedish deal, which includes a 27-year service agreement, is for 47 V150-4.2MW turbines in 4.3 MW power optimised mode. Customer and project location are undisclosed.

Vestas will supply, install and commission the wind turbines, which will be delivered in the first quarter of 2022. Commissioning is planned for the third quarter of 2022.

Vestas sales director for Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Northern and Central Europe Juan Furones said: “Leveraging the versatility of our 4MW platform variants, the V150-4.2MW is the perfect fit for the site’s wind conditions and will ensure maximum value for our customer’s business case.

“This order once again underlines the V150-4.2MW turbine’s competitiveness in the Nordic region, where it has now reached a firm order intake and installation track record of 1.4GW.”

Macquarie’s Green Investment Group has also placed an 80MW order in Norway for 19 Vestas V150-4.2MW turbines plus a 25-year servicing agreement.

Deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2021, while commissioning is planned for the fourth quarter of 2021.

Green Investment Group has entered into a power purchase agreement, which will provide “revenue certainty” for the project and deliver power to local industry.

The turbines combine Vestas’ largest rotor in Norway with its anti-icing system, to minimise ice formation on blades. The turbines have been “optimised for the site’s wind and climate conditions, to maximise power production”, said Vestas.

Two Nordic companies, including Risa, have also been selected to complete the main civil and overhead lines works. Risa will carry out all groundwork on the project. Construction of the wind farm will support 80-100 jobs.

“We are very pleased with our first collaboration with Green Investment Group in the Nordics, which demonstrates once again Vestas‘ ability to offer wind energy solutions and services that optimise the cost of energy in a demanding climatic environment, while at the same time create maximum value for our valued customer”, said Christer Baden Hansen, Vestas sales vice president, Northern and Central Europe.

As part of deals booked in the last quarter, Vestas secured a 48MW turbine order for a wind project awarded in the first Italian auction, which was held in October 2019.

The contract includes the supply and installation of 14 V136-3.45MW wind turbines, as well as a 10-year service agreement.

Turbine delivery will begin in the fourth quarter of 2020 with commissioning scheduled for the first quarter of 2021. The project and customer are undisclosed.

In addition, the turbine maker has secured a from ERG for 18 V100–2.0MW turbines for the 36MW Laszki wind project, in Podkarpackie, Poland. The turbines will have a hub height of 110 metres.

Deliveries are expected to begin in the first half of 2021, while commissioning is planned for the second half of 2021.

“We are proud to continue our valued partnership with ERG on the Laszki wind project and will utilise our strong service capabilities and extensive market experience in Poland to maximise our customer’s return on investment”, said Nils de Baar, Vestas North and Central Europe president.

“This order once again demonstrates that Vestas is a reliable partner in auctions, delivering competitive wind energy solutions,” he added.
