German company Trianel is launching an initiative aimed at delivering grid flexibility management to accommodate Germany’s growing share of renewable energy.
The ‘FlexStore’ cooperation network will work with municipal utilities and other project partners to identify opportunities for flexible grid management and ultimately to develop business models.
Trianel management spokesman Sven Becker said: “With FlexStore, municipal utilities can participate early on in building up know-how in the new business area of flexibility management and benefit from the jointly developed knowledge pool of network members from different areas.”
The first phase of the three-year project will focus on knowledge building and transfer among FlexStore members.
It will analyse new developments in flexible energy management, including energy storage options.
Further phases, will see Trianel develop viable business models and pilot projects.
In the long term, the project aims to deliver concrete investment opportunities for municipal utilities covering areas such as intelligent distribution network operation, electricity storage in large batteries, power-to-gas and power-to-heat.
FlexStore is open to large and small municipal utilities and other partners who want to develop economical solutions for the integration of renewables, promote sector coupling and flexible grid management, Trianel said.
