German renewables operator Trianel Group’s clean energy portfolios, totalling 275MW, have achieved forecasted earnings in 2018.
The portfolios in question, Trianel Erneuerbare Energien (TEE) and Trianel Onshore-Windkraftwerke (TOW), comprise wind and solar assets in Germany.
Trianel is a cooperative of municipal utilities, with 58 shareholders, from Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland.
TEE and TOW managing director Markus Hakes said: “The positive result confirms the cooperation approach of our shareholders for a joint and diversified renewable portfolio.”
The TOW portfolio comprises eight wind farms with a total capacity of 100MW and the TEE portfolio consists of 43MW of photovoltaic assets and 132MW of wind.
Good wind conditions in the first half of 2018 contributed to above-average yields, but in the second half of the year, the wind volume declined.
“The geographical spread of our wind farm portfolio across six federal states, as well as various wind turbine technologies combined with efficient operational management have enabled us to achieve a solid earnings position despite the unfavourable wind conditions,” said Hakes.
A long and sunny summer in 2018 had a significant positive impact on the earnings of the TEE portfolio.
Hakes said: “The diversified renewables portfolio of wind and PV has been able to compensate very well for the 2018 weakened wind year in the summer months.
“We will continue to expand the wind and PV capacity in the TEE portfolio,” said Hakes.
Trianel and the 37 municipal utilities, which form TEE’s shareholders, will invest around half a billion euros by the end of 2020 in the development and expansion of the portfolio’s pipeline.
The pipeline comprises 250MW of wind and ground-mounted PV projects throughout Germany at various stages of development.
In 2013, the predecessor Trianel Onshore Wind Power Plants was discontinued and an investment platform was created for municipal utilities in order to participate in wind projects all over Germany.
In the first quarter of 2017, the last wind farm project in the 100MW TOW portfolio was commissioned.
Regional energy suppliers, 16 municipal utilities as well as Trianel are shareholders in TOW.
