Vestas has secured a contract from Edison and E2i Energie Speciali to repower two wind farms in Italy totalling 53MW.
The deal, first reported in the subscriber-only newsletter reNEWS, covers the Castiglione Messer Marino and Schiavi d’Abruzzo projects in Abruzzo in the centre of the country.
Vestas will replace 59 third-party 600kW turbines with 16 V112-3.3MW machines, increasing the parks’ nominal power by 50%.
Turbine delivery is expected in the third quarter of 2018, with commissioning planned for the fourth quarter.
E2i Energie Speciali chief operating officer Alberto Musso said: “Replacing old machines with fewer, taller and especially more modern units with increased reliability and higher electricity production is one of the main targets of our company.”
