Canadian developers Boralex and Aeolis Wind Power Corp will start construction on 18 July of the 15MW Moose Lake wind farm in British Columbia.
Borea Construction will be the civil contractor for the project, Boralex spokesman Alistair Howard told reNEWS.
The project, located 24km northwest of Tumbler Ridge near Highway 29, will have four turbines and create about 40 jobs during its one-year construction phase.
“Enercon is the leading turbine candidate, but we have not finalized our selection,” said Howard.
The C$70m project completed an environmental impact assessment and received a General Area Licence of Occupation in September 2014.
Moose Lake received a 40-year standing offer program electricity purchase agreement from BC Hydro in December 2015.
The wind farm will tie into the grid at the Meikle substation, part of Pattern Energy’s under-construction 180MW Meikle wind project.
Boralex expects Moose Lake to produce about 56 GWh/year and anticipates operation to begin by the fall of 2017.
BC Hydro is reviewing a second SOP proposal by Boralex, the 15MW Babcock Ridge scheme, also located near Tumbler Ridge.
