Dutch logistics company Kraanverhuur Transport Friesland (KTF) has secured its first contract in the offshore wind sector to store and transport concrete platforms for the 383MW Fryslan nearshore project in IJsselmeer lake in the Netherlands.
The deal, with a consortium of Siemens Gamesa and Van Oord, will see KTF store and transport 89 platforms for the project’s turbines.
KTF said an area of approximately 10,000 square metres has been made available for this purpose at its Nesta site.
The platforms will be unloaded onto the quay by crane from the transport ship, which will bring the units from Poland where they are being made by Per Aarsleff.
After a short storage period, the concrete platforms will loaded onto a pontoon using a 400-tonne crane, before being transported via the Lorentz locks to the project location at Breezanddijk in the IJsselmeer.
KTF general director Anno Zuidema said: “Due to the location of our company and the wide range of services, we were approached to temporarily store the concrete platforms.
“With us, the platforms are loaded onto the inland pontoons and transported to the IJsselmeer.”
“We have been active in the onshore wind energy sector for some time. This is the first offshore wind project for us.
“For Windpark Fryslan we offer a total logistics concept with regard to unloading, transporting and reloading the platforms.
“We take care of engineering, storage, heavy and vertical transport, among other things.
“We look forward to doing more in the offshore wind after the execution of this special project. “
