Dutch developer Ventolines has kicked off construction at its 383MW Fryslan offshore wind farm in the IJsselmeer lake in the Netherlands, with the project’s first foundation now installed.
Van Oord is EPCI contractor for the installation of the wind farm and will install a total of 89 EEW-fabricated monopiles.
Van Oord is using a custom-built barge called Sarens Soccer Pitch to carry out the work due to the shallow waters in the lake.
Ventolines said it is hoping to install two foundations a day and hammer home all bases for the project by January 2021.
Installation of the project’s 89 Siemens Gamesa 4.3MW turbines will start next spring.
Ventolines is installing the turbines in a hexagonal cluster formation in order to minimise the visual impact of the project.
