Dutch wind engineering consultancy Pondera and Korean company Hanmi Global have been appointed to act jointly as owner’s engineer on the 100MW Jeju Hanlim offshore wind farm off the coast of South Korea.
The Jeju Hanlim Offshore Wind consortium awarded the contract for its commercial-scale project, which will be the third offshore wind project in South Korean waters.
Jeju Hanlim is located near the Tamra offshore project just of the coast of Jeju Island, south-west of the mainland.
A developer consortium is led by Korea Electric Power Corporation Engineering and Construction (E&C).
Pondera chief executive Hans Rijntalder said: “It is a major breakthrough for us after being present in Korea for some years now and we hope to be able to assist our Korean colleagues with our western owners engineering experience.”
Hanmi Global chief executive Jong Hoon Kim added: “We have a lot of experience with project realisation and construction management, but our knowledge of offshore wind projects is still limited. Therefore, we are happy to join forces with Pondera.”
Hanmi Global is South Korea’s largest provider of project and construction management services.
Pondera Consult, founded in 2007, focuses mainly on offshore and onshore wind projects.
