Winergy is to showcase its 8MW offshore wind turbine gearbox at the WindEnergy trade show in Hamburg next week.
The German turbine component manufacturer said the unit on display in Hamburg is 3.66 metres tall, 3.34 metres wide and 3.5 metre long and weighs 46.7 tonnes.
It has specially designed the gearbox to give visitors a view of the interior and journal bearings. An original machine with all components weighs 86 tonnes, Winergy said.
The company said it developed the gearbox for the Adwen AD 8-180 offshore turbine, which has an 180m rotor diameter.
The two-stage planetary gearbox is connected via a flange connection direct to a medium-fast generator, Winergy said.
