Nordex is investigating the collapse of a turbine at the 9MW Haltern AV9 wind farm near Essen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The German manufacturer said that on 29 September a N149/4500 turbine collapsed almost completely and the nacelle and rotor blades fell to the ground.
The turbine, installed on a 164-metre hybrid tower, was erected in January and put into operation on 11 March, the company said.
A Nordex spokesperson said: “The incident did not result in any injuries, the police and fire brigade were informed and secured the scene of the accident.
“As a preventive measure, a nearby turbine of the same type was provisionally taken out of operation. All other necessary safety measures were initiated immediately after the accident.
“In consultation with the customer, a team of service technicians on site and the main office in Hamburg is now working on further evaluating the situation and the root cause of the incident.
“A statement about the underlying cause cannot yet be made.”
