Cuxport is supporting balance of plant contractor Van Oord on construction of Northland Power’s 268.8MW Deutsche Bucht offshore wind project in the German North Sea with a new berth at the Cuxhaven terminal.
Seajacks jack-up vessel Scylla has arrived at the port and is expected to load the first batch of monopiles and transition pieces for the wind farm from the new 8.5-hectare berth four.
Cuxport said 31 transition pieces fabricated by an Idesa and Windar Renovables joint venture in Aviles, Spain, are lined up at the berth ready for load out.
Earlier this month, EEW Special Pipe Constructions loaded out the first monopiles at the port of Rostock for Deutsche Bucht.
Van Oord will install foundations at the construction site some 95km off the island of Borkum in water depths around 40 metres.
MHI Vestas will supply and install 8.4MW turbines in 2019.
In addition to the project’s 31 conventional monopiles, two turbines will be installed on Universal Foundation-made suction bucket monopile foundations. Installation of the substructures is scheduled for next spring.
The Deutsche Bucht project will be connected to the 800MW BorWin Beta offshore grid hub in operation since early 2015.
